Terms of service
The rules of the workshop
Last updated: October 29, 2026
These terms cover submitting an invention to Wacky Whatsits ("we," "us") and ordering a build from us. By submitting or ordering, you agree to them. Please read them along with our privacy policy.
The short version
- Submitting is free. You pay only if we pick the idea and you say yes to our quote.
- Your family keeps the idea and the drawing. We keep the 3D design files we make.
- We never sell copies of your child's invention unless you join the Tinkerers Guild under a separate agreement.
- Every build is one of a kind, so we can't take returns, but we'll make it right if it arrives broken.
Who can submit
Submissions and orders must come from a parent or legal guardian who is at least 18. Kids are the inventors, but please don't let them contact us or submit on their own.
Submitting an idea
- Submitting is free and doesn't create an order. We build a limited number of inventions each month, so we can't pick every idea.
- If we pick yours, we'll email you a quote. Nothing is owed until you accept it and pay.
- If we don't pick it, we'll let you know when we can, and we delete the submission as described in our privacy policy.
What we won't build
We can decline any idea for any reason. We don't build weapons or anything designed to hurt someone, anything we think isn't safe for a child, or characters, logos and designs that belong to other companies.
Quotes, payment and changes
- Your quote lists the price, what's included and an estimated turnaround. Prices can differ from one invention to the next.
- We take payment through our shop provider (currently Etsy), and their terms also apply to that purchase.
- Before we print, we'll send you a preview of the design. One round of changes is included. More rounds or big changes to the idea may cost extra, and we'll ask first.
- You can cancel for a full refund before we start designing. After that, we'll refund what we can, minus work already done.
Your build
- Each build is designed from your child's drawing and 3D printed by hand, so it won't look exactly like the drawing, and small marks from the printing process are normal.
- Turnaround times are estimates. We'll tell you if something is going to take longer.
- Because every build is one of a kind, we don't accept returns or exchanges. If it arrives broken or doesn't work, email us within 14 days with a photo and we'll repair or remake it.
Safety
- Every build comes with age guidance. Builds may contain small parts and are not for children under 3 unless we say otherwise.
- Some builds are display pieces and aren't meant to be played with roughly. We'll tell you which kind you're getting.
- Builds with lights or electronics should be used with adult supervision, powered only the way we describe, and kept away from water.
- Please use your build as intended and don't modify the electronics. You can change the settings file we provide; that's part of the fun.
Who owns what
- The idea and drawing are yours. You give us permission to use them to design, build and film your child's invention.
- We own the design files, such as the 3D models and code we create. We keep them so we can repair or remake your build.
- We won't sell copies of your child's invention, or use it in other products, unless you join the Tinkerers Guild. The Guild has its own agreement, including how your child is credited and paid.
- Posting online happens only if you say yes on the form. We show hands only, never faces or full names, and we'll take a post down if you ask.
- You confirm the drawing is your child's own work and that you have the right to share it.
Limits on our responsibility
We work hard to make every build well and safely. To the extent the law allows, our total responsibility for any claim about a build is limited to the amount you paid for it, and we aren't responsible for indirect losses. Nothing here limits rights you have under the law that can't be waived.
Changes to these terms
We may update these terms as the workshop grows. The date at the top shows the latest version. Changes don't affect orders you've already paid for.
